Mi’kmaq Cultural Village – wigwams and demonstrations open for the weekend

6:30 Encourage everyone to bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy this al fresco evening of television and film. The official opening will also profile the park’s many public art installations, which feature themes and stories reflecting the contributions of the generations of Aboriginal inhabitants and immigrants who shaped the local community, the region, and Nova Scotia in very distinct ways.

6:00 Gathering for the Steelworkers Procession – Sydney Tar Pond Agency Offices –
(Congregation area ‐1 Inglis street)

Everyone young and old is encouraged to participate – and if you or a family member were a former steelworker or coal miner and you still have some of these items please wear your Sydney Steel t‐shirts, jackets, hard hats, flashlights, lunch boxes, etc. in tribute to all who worked there. All are welcome! This will be lead by the Men of the Deeps and will include community groups such as the Cadets, Girl and Boy scouts, and many multicultural groups – The Procession will end at the main stage area in Open Hearth Park. Everyone is invited to come out and be part of this concert kick off!

Come watch eight renowned chefs from around the world compete live in a black box reveal competition. Stakes will be high as they create a main course using surprise, local ingredients and vie for a $5,000 prize and the title of Garland Canada’s Master Chef.

Here’s an excuse to get down to Open Hearth Park early on Saturday & Sunday! We’ve created a Sweet & Savoury Grilled Cheese Breakfast Sandwich with a twist – HoneyLicious chocolate spread & double smoked bacon. FREE for the first 500 people.
Two-Day Gourmet Street Fair (Saturday 12pm – 10pm; Sunday 12pm – 3pm)

The Right Some Good Gourmet Street Fair will bring the wild successes of gourmet street food in cities like Chicago, New York, London and San Francisco to Sydney, Cape Breton. This will be your chance to taste foods from around the world all in one spot – it’s an ‘amusement park for foodies.’
Each visiting Master Chef set to compete in the Garland Canada Master Chef Face Off, will lead the way in creating a unique food showcasing the best in local ingredients. Each chef will put their own country’s twist on serving it up ‘street food’ style.

Tickets for food & beverages will be sold at the festival grounds.
