Acadian Roots

Visitors taking in the Celtic Colours Festival experience of "Acadian Roots" at the D'Escousse Civic Improvement Centre on October 11th are in for a treat. The concert will feature one of the Cape Breton Heritage Coast's most talented young fiddlers, Kayla Bona. Kayla hails from the picturesque village of L'Ardoise and, although only 18 years old, has been dancing from the age of 4, studying and playing the fiddle since the age of 7, and a member of the Cape Breton Fiddlers Association since 2002. She has been entertaining for quite a few years, performing at such prestigious events as the Royal Nova Scotia Tatoo in Halifax, as well as performing throughout Cape Breton at such popular venues as the West Mabou square dances, the Celtic Music Interpretive Center, and the Normaway Inn, just to name a few and has entertained alongside many well known Cape Breton musicians such as Rita MacNeil, Ashley MacIsaac, and Natalie MacMaster. This past summer, Kayla was hired by the Destination Richmond Tourism Cooperative to entertain visitors with her lively fiddle tunes and beautiful singing voice at various locations on the Cape Breton Heritage Coast, where she was a true ambassador for our Celtic music industry.
